Autodesk® 3ds Max® 2011 Announced!

Yep, it's official, the new version will be available shortly, and here's what's inside!

3ds Max 2011 is scheduled to ship on or after April 7, 2010!  Users on current subscription will be able to download directly from their subscription center.  Not current?  Contact Motion Media to add or renew your subscription to 3ds Max!

1. - Slate Material Editor:

A node based material editor that helps significantly improve workflow and productivity for artists creating and editing complex material networks.

2. Quicksilver Hardware Renderer:

Create high-fidelity pre-visualizations, animatics, and games-related marketing materials in less time with Quicksilver,an innovative new hardware renderer that helps produce higher-quality images at incredible speeds.

3. Local edits to containers:

Collaborate more efficiently with significantly enhanced workflows for Containers that enable users to layer local edits non-destructively on top of referenced content.

4. Accelerate modeling and texturing tasks: with new tools that extend the Graphite modeling and Viewport Canvas toolsets:
A revised toolset for 3D painting and editing textures within the viewport; the ability to paint with object brushes to create geometry within a scene; a new brush interface for editing UVW coordinates; and an interactive tool for extending edge loops.

5. Viewport display of 3ds Max materials:

  5. They are. I saw several demos over GDC - the material editor is exactly what max users have been asking for. No more hunting down through the material! The classic editor is still there and tied in, but the new schematic is awesome. Dockable/floating windows, and the viewer is laid out nicely. The 3D paint tools have a really cool feature where you can toggle to the unwrapped UV maps on the fly while you are painting. PSD style (and you can save them) layering with masks, blend modes and such. Ambient occlusion map-save out, then add as a layer with multiply blend mode, for example of it's use...
