3Dean's Vray car studio setup

The car model was purchased via Turbosquid, the Vray materials can be found at http://www.vray-materials.de/ If you haven't been to this site, you might want to take a peak.  It's a good community of users posting their materials - from the brilliant to the bizarre!

Screen shot showing the placement of objects and cameras.  Notice there are no lights in the scene.  Instead, use a HDR image for lighting and reflections.

 Here is a sample HDRI file, which was taken from the Dosch Design collection, Dosch has entire collections or individual DVDs that can be very valuable in this type of work.

These are the hdr settings. Note: when using the vray camera, you must turn the overall multi way up, otherwise you won’t see the result.  For more information as to why, you can read this you’d like to know why read this article about vray's physical camera.

 Here are the default camera settings except for turning off vignetting, and a change of the white balance to neutral.

Render settings
Here are the settings for high-res renderings in vray.  These settings, for the most part, will work with animations too. The color mapping has been adjusted, and note that the gamma control has been changed. For more info on gamma, go here.
